Speaker Series – A Brief History of Blue Ridge Summit

Fort Ritchie Community Center will be hosting the next Speaker Series on July 19th, 2018.

Bill Stanley will share his knowledge and passion for the local area through his presentation: “A Brief History of Blue Ridge Summit”. Stanley is a native of Blue Ridge Summit and describes his interest in local history as a life-long pursuit. He retired as Senior Reactor Engineer at Three Mile Island in 2016.

The local region is featured prominently in the lives of several notable Americans including Dr. Walter Reed, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson. Some merely passed through; others stayed. Walter Reed, the namesake of the Walter Reed Military Medical Center, owned a home in Cascade, MD. Stories about these folks and others will be part of the presentation.

The event starts at 6pm with a social hour followed by the presentation and concludes with a question and answer segment. Light refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $15.00 per person and $25.00 per couple. For more information on the Community Center or to purchase tickets please visit this site and select “Speaker Series” from the event list.
